Yakov Binyamin Turmelle is a photographer based in the U.S. and Israel, specializing in documentary work, portraits, and events. He has lived and worked in a variety of locations, documenting subjects that include the 2023 Israel-Hamas war and the response of the American Jewish community, interfaith peace activism in Jerusalem, Mexico’s Puebla Earthquake of 2017, Los Angeles street life of the mid-2010’s, and local news of Connecticut.
In 2025, he won second place in the Social Impact Award of Philadelphia Jewish Film and Media’s “Unapologetically Jewish” competition for his photo series highlighting Jewish artists, educators, activists, and Israeli daily life.
His work has been featured in numerous international publications, including the BBC, Times of Israel, Jerusalem Post, Ynet, Israel Hayom, Walla News, Record Journal (Hearst Media), and Punktum Magazine.
